Craft #4- Pillow out of an old sweater

I had an old sweater. It was pretty beat up, but for some reason, I could not throw it away even though the sleeves were falling off. But, I found a way to recycle it here! And, this is how it went down.
Here is the sweater before...

I cut it into 2 squares, added some lining and sewed it all together. (though it is not as easy as it sounds.)

And here is my new (lopsided, but none the less cute) pillow!
It was my first attempt at pillow making and I'm not gonna lie...it was a bit difficult. Next time will be much easier. And now to see how I can recycle the sleeves. Any ideas?

Craft idea # 3- Satin flowers

I LOVE these flowers! They are so versatile in that they can be made into jewelry, headbands, hair clips and clothing accessories! I decided to put clips on mine so that I could use them as hair/hat clips. The cool thing is that they are fun and easy to make and an be sewn or glued to anything! I have even seen them sewn onto pillows! Here is how I made mine. First, I cut out 3 circles in different sizes. You can make as many layers as you would like, but I like the look of 3.

Next, you slightly burn the edges around all of the circles. This makes them curl and look more like petals.
Finally, you hand sew the layers together and you can embellish how ever you would like! I added a pretty pearled bead.
Now, choose something to put them on to. I hot glued mine on ribbon covered hair clips. Pretty hu? I put a couple of them up for sale on my ETSY page if you decide not to make them yourself. :)

Craft #2- ribbon belt

Kennedy has a cute pair or jeans that are the right length for her, but they are way too big around the waist. I saw a cute belt the other day and it was $10.00! As I looked around online, I found a way to make a simple belt out of ribbon. All I did was sew 2 pieces of 1 1/2 inch ribbon together. Then, I sewed D-rings on one end so that it would have a way to tighten. I sewed the other end over twice and BAM! A new, adorable belt. Just FYI, this is not the belt I will be using for Kennedy as she cut it after I sewed it and I had to make it 4 inches shorter. If anyone wants it, I will be glad to give it to you. It will probably fit a girl about 12-18 months old perfectly! Total cost: $4.75

Craft #1- magnets

I decided to start small with simple magnets made from magnets I already had on the fridge. All I did for the flat magnets was mod podge some cute fabric and little trinkets I had onto some "ugly" magnets that come free in the mail. I also made a cute picture frame magnet as well. For the flower magnet, I took some scrap fabric and cut them out into flower shapes. I them sewed the layers together by hand and hot glued a magnet on the back. They are not perfect in any way, but I think it added a bit of color to my fridge and I like them a lot. So, there you go!

Fun Goals

Along with my regular goals for the year, I wanted to make a fun goal. Since I learned how to sew a couple of years ago, I decided that I would try to hand make at least 1-2 items a month for either myself, my children or friends. It may be a tiny project such as a magnet, or a huge project like an outfit for my kids. I think that forcing myself to learn how to make things will help me to learn how to reuse thing in my house that would normally go to waste. I hope that I can keep to this goal which is why I am writing it down. I hope to also have random giveaways of things that I make if I think that they turn out well. I am going to try and start tomorrow! Yay for learning new things!

Firsts

I Love to see babies firsts. Their first real smile, first laugh and all of their first discoveries. unfortunately, I am really bad at documenting them. This morning, I saw Liam trying to roll over and I caught this just in time! How lucky is that? He is too sweet. You can hear Kennedy saying "yay" at the end.

On the subjects of firsts, I just finished potty training my first child! HOORAY! She all of the sudden does so well. She even tells me she has to go when we are out in public now and uses the potty at restaurants! I am so happy! Her new favorite thing is to dress up like a princess...fingernails and all. Such a fun girl!
