Blessing 7...Children's Literature!

For those of you who don't read a lot of books, this post may be boring...but, I wanted to share my love of children's literature by posting my top 5 books in the children's lit category. I want to let you all know that just because it is children's literature does not mean that it is for children. These books deal with adult situations and show how children might deal with them. The writing is terrific in all five of these books. I read some of them in my children's lit class from 2 years ago and have re-read all of them. I really hope that some of you go out and get these books and then tell me what you thought about them. Most of them are quick reads and will leave you thinking about them for a long time! Look them up on the links I leave to read a summary. I would not share these unless I was sure many others would enjoy them!

The Giver-Lois Lowry

Number the Stars- Lois Lowry

The City of Ember- Jeanne DuPrau

Walk Two Moons- Sharon Creech

The Devil's Arithmetic- Jane Yolen

Please let me know if any of you read them! I would love to start a book club too. Anyone interested?

Yay first of all for Kennedy walking! It is so much fun. She will get good at it fast. It's amazing.
I love the giver and number the stars! I haven't read the other 3 but will have to look them up when I get a little time!

Not to comment so much, but I love love love The Giver. It is still one of my favorite books. I would read it every summer when I was growing up.

I recognize most of them, but can't say that I have read them. I'll have to check them out! I thought you were talking about preschool literature:) I was waiting for "Everybody Poops," "ABC's" and my daughter's personal favorite "Pinkalicious" and stuff like that:) I prefer children's literature because you skip the unneccisary profanity, and graphic stuff!

I read number the stars when I was like 12. I should try it again, because I have no clue what it is about and I am sure that I would love it. I think I may even still have it. Thanks for reminding me!

Have you read "Gathering Blue" and "Messenger"? They are the next the in The Giver trilogy. I really liked both of them just as much as The Giver.
