Blessing 7...Children's Literature!

For those of you who don't read a lot of books, this post may be boring...but, I wanted to share my love of children's literature by posting my top 5 books in the children's lit category. I want to let you all know that just because it is children's literature does not mean that it is for children. These books deal with adult situations and show how children might deal with them. The writing is terrific in all five of these books. I read some of them in my children's lit class from 2 years ago and have re-read all of them. I really hope that some of you go out and get these books and then tell me what you thought about them. Most of them are quick reads and will leave you thinking about them for a long time! Look them up on the links I leave to read a summary. I would not share these unless I was sure many others would enjoy them!

The Giver-Lois Lowry

Number the Stars- Lois Lowry

The City of Ember- Jeanne DuPrau

Walk Two Moons- Sharon Creech

The Devil's Arithmetic- Jane Yolen

Please let me know if any of you read them! I would love to start a book club too. Anyone interested?

Alone Time

On Wednesday night, Christian and I had our first night alone without Kennedy! I looked forward to it for a long time, but when I finally got to snuggle up in the large, comfortable King sized bed, I felt sad that my baby was not with us! Isn't that sad? I knew she was in good hands with her grandparents, but I just worried that she would be scared to wake up and not have me there! I was wrong. She did just fine without us and that made me a little sad too. What a big girl she is getting to be. We still had a great time at the Anniversary Inn. No, it was not our anniversary. It was just a night to get away together. We had an amazing suite with a balcony, hot tub, sparkling cider and cheesecake! It was nice to relax in the hot tub in our room and watch a movie without interruptions. I also sat out on the balcony til 1:00 am reading the last of Eclipse. I am regretting reading the whole book so fast because now I have to wait for the next book to come out! TORTURE!

View from the balcony (we look mad, but we're just being weird)

Me on the presidential seal!

Besides out trip, not much new to report. Kennedy is so close to walking that it scares me! I will have to post a funny video of her playing with the cats later too. She was cracking her self up and it was hilarious! Oh, last but not least, we are celebrating my birthday tomorrow (Saturday) at 6:00 pm at Outback steakhouse in sandy. You are all invited if you want to come. My real birthday is not until Tuesday, but I thought a weekend would be better for everyone. Call me if you can make it!

No tags

Well, I always see my friends fun tags...and nobody EVER tags me. What the heck people? So, I decided to just take my picking and do one that I saw. It is 5 pet peeves that I have. So, here they are.

#1. I HATE it when people try to get every last bit of ice out of their cups...especially when it is in a movie or at a play. They just shake and shake the ice and then pat on the bottom of the cup til ice comes out. So loud and soooo annoying! (then comes the chewing of the ice...AHHHH)

#2. There is no such word as "irregardless" people. The word is regardless so stop saying it! I am too nice to correct people when they say it but come on. Did you not take English in high school?

#3. I find it annoying and distracting when people say "you know?" after every sentence! No I don't know...that is why you are telling me the story because I don't know! When ever my brother tells a story and says "you know", I say "no I don't know" just so that he can feel as annoyed as I do. haha!

#4. I know how to raise my child! I can't tell you how often I hear "she needs more meat on those bones", "you need to let her cry and then she will learn" or my all time worst "you need to break her of that habit fast"! I am not going to do anything to hurt my child. I am all about advise, but not unless I ask for it. I'm sure I will learn by trial and error.

#5. I may have been guilty of this one once or twice, but I have stopped because I realized how annoying it actually is. This is actually my number one pet peeve. FISHING FOR COMPLIMENTS! When someone says "I am so ugly" or "I am so fat" they want you to say "no, you are beautiful and skinny". I actually know someone (no names) who does this at least 3 times a day and I give in and give them the compliment! Someday when this person says "Oh, this sucks and that looks terrible" maybe I will just say "Yes it does!"

Let me clear up, I say that I need to lose some weight because I still have a little left to go, but I am in no way looking for anyone to say "no, you look amazing!" If anyone catches me "fishing", please be kind and let me know.

Now, since I never get to do this...I tag Alicia, Sarah and Melanie

Lots of posts in One

I have been a blog slacker lately. Probably cause I was worried because I was SURE I was pregnant. Luckily, that was not the case! Don't get me wrong...I would love to be blessed with more children, but not anytime soon. I want more time with just one! She has been such a troublemaker lately. : ) Playing in the toilet, flushing things down the toilet (luckily only paper), taking everything out of the cupboards and making LARGE messes. I feel bad that I don't have a lot of pictures because whenever she does somthing, I pretty much just freak out and don't bother getting a camera out before cleaning her and the mess up. She is a swettie though. Now on to the next post.....

Good Old Days

Anyone who lived in California with me or hung out with me knows that we had a great group of friends that we always hung out with. Well, I got to relive some of those good old days down at "Strawberry Days" in Pleasant Grove. It is a big carnival with rides and food galore! I was soooo excited when Derek Porter drove up with my brother. Daniel Kunz came down from Idaho too. My excitement grew when I got out of the car and saw Clayton Ashcraft...the life of any party! It was such a great reunion and night. If it was not for Kennedy getting resless and tired, I would have felt like a single 19 year old girl again. I even threw off Kennedy's schedule to go to I Hop at 11:00pm! It was so irresposnible, but so much fun! It was great to see them all and to act CRAZY again! The second picture is of the boys in a drive up ATM machine acting like they were in a car.

Blessings 6 and 7

I have also been a slacker on my blessings of the week! I am so far behind that I needed to combine 2 in 1. Blessing number 6 is warm weather! I am so excited that it is finally summer! No more having to bundle up just to check the mail or freezing my ace off every sunday when I had to dress up in not so warm clothes! It is so nice to be able to go fun places and do fun things like swim and play lawn games. Just yesterday, we went to the zoo and Kennedy loved it! I wish that Summer would last forever! This picture is of dad and Kennedy at the zoo. Kennedy has blue popcicle all over her mouth.

Blessing number 7 is being a mother! I love it more every day! I love that Kennedy comes to me when she is sad and needs a hug. I love it when she wakes up and wants to lay on the couch and cuddle with me. I love being able to make her smile and laugh. It is such a blessing that I get to stay home with her and watch her learn and grow more each day. It is such a fun job!

play doctor for me

okay readers...i have felt extreemly tired ( like I have to take a nap to function) and extreemly hungry ( like 5 minutes after I eat a meal I am hungry again). I really doubt that I am preggo and I don't feel terrible enough to pay $15.00 to see a doctor so I was wondering if any of you had these symptoms while pregnant or if there could be anything else wrong with me. One more thing...if I don't eat like every half hour or so, I feel sick to my tummy. Even as I type this, I feel like I need to go to bed now even though I took a 2 hour nap from 6-8! Help!

Best Night EVER!

I have been waiting FOREVER to see Wicked...and last night, I finally got my chance! Christian and I, along with my brother, Austin, my best friend Emily and her sister Susan, went up to L.A. to see the best play ever! It was much more that I expected. I already knew the music, but the storyline, actors, sets and humor made it even better than I imagined it would be. After the show, we all waited outside and got autographs and pictures with the stars of the show. They were all amazing and surprisingly young! I took a lot of pictures of our trip so here they are. It really was the best night ever! If you have not seen this show, go see it!

Free Fun!

Anyone who knows me knows that I love FREE! So a few people have told me that Legoland was free the last hour it was opened, so we went today and had a lot of fun! In fact, we are going back on Monday. (Sarah, I will call you if you guys want to go too!) Anyway, we got to go on the big rides (well...for legoland) and see the cities made of Lego's. It was pretty cool. Even the parking was free! I thought there would be a line to get in at 4:00, but we were the only ones there! Here are some pictures of our fun day!

Sharing the wealth!

So, I found the absolute GREATEST websites. For those of you who are parents, you have to go to www.babysteals.com once a day to see what great deal they have for that day. Each day, they have an awesome name brand product for 50% off or more. Seriously! I have already bought 2 things from there. Todays product was baby legs for $6.00! The other website is www.mysurvey.com. Just for signing up, you get points, then every day you get a survey and get more points. You can trade your points in for CASH, or great prizes. I just thought I would share the wealth with all of you. Isn't the world wide web great!
